Mentees have the opportunity to select a mentor.

One of the best ways to break into the tech field is to find someone that has gone before you and gained success in the tech world. This person has the ability to provide valuable advice and encouragement as a mentor. Consider the following steps before choosing your mentor.

• Have a clear understanding of your motivation to be mentored

• Clarifying your own goals, skills, and areas of interests

• Select a mentor based on pre-established criteria relevant to your career goals

• Broaden your search for multiple mentors to include faculty outside your department

• Expectations
